Greenvolt Comunidades Announces Collaboration on SAtComm Project
Portugal-based Greenvolt Communidades, which works to facilitate the creation of Energy Communities (ECs), says it is proud to announce its participation in the €3.2 million Sustainable Atlantic Communities (SAtComm) project, co-financed by the Interreg Atlantic Area Programme through the European Regional Development Fund.
“As a key player in this initiative, we are leading efforts in clean energy development,” it says.
“The SAtComm project is the commitment to providing Energy Communities with the tools and knowledge needed to take control of their energy usage in alignment with the European Union’s new regulations. Our team is contributing with expertise to ensure inclusive, sustainable, and adaptable technologies, promoting direct energy trading, wise consumption, optimised electricity usage, and facilitating Energy Sharing across the Europe.
“We are committed to environmentally responsible energy practices, addressing climate change impacts on SMEs and local communities.”
Members of Greenvolt Communidades join project partners at the SAtComm kick-off meeting, which took place in January 2024 in Walton Institute at South East Technological University (SETU), Co. Waterford, Ireland.
What are some examples of adaptable technologies being developed or implemented in the project?
Hi Teknik,
Thanks for your question. The SAtComm project will enable renewable energy technologies to be integrated locally in Energy Communities. We will use prediction and optimisation algorithms to maximise the self-sustainability of these Communities along with batteries and smart grid techniques.
How do the new European Union regulations influence the direction and focus of the project?
The REDII and IEMD Directives are essential to enable Energy Communities realise their potential. The SAtComm project is being run across Ireland, Portugal, France and Spain and the transposition process and mechanisms vary widely across the jurisdictions. The project will develop a software platform that will take into account these variances and have the flexibility to handle these differences. An analysis will be completed on the efficacy of the models in each country,
