On 25th June 2025, the SAtComm project hosted an event at the SETU Xcelerate Centre in Waterford, Ireland focused on the evolving role of smart grids, Energy Parks, and Energy Communities in accelerating the clean energy transition. Staff from Walton Institute, South East TEchnology University and local stakeholders were in attendance.
The session explored the challenges and opportunities of decentralised energy systems and the importance of integrating renewable sources closer to the point of use. Central to the discussion was how local communities can become active “prosumers”—both producing and consuming energy—enabled by digital tools for energy prediction and optimisation.
Attendees heard from Sean Lyons, Technical Lead at Walton Institute and SAtComm Project Coordinator, who outlined how the project is empowering citizens through smart energy technologies. Prof. Ricardo Guerrero-Lemus, CEO of energyRIS and SAtComm partner, shared European best practices and innovations in the development of Energy Communities.
